48 hours in Gandhinagar
Two days, a few meetings and the best of the green capital in between.
Day 1: the capital
Land at AMD and head to Sector 13 or 14. Take morning meetings near the Secretariat, then spend the afternoon at Dandi Kutir, the museum of Gandhi’s life beside Mahatma Mandir. In the evening, go to Akshardham in Sector 20 for its gardens and light-and-water show — phones and bags are not allowed inside, so leave them in the car or the cloakroom.

Day 2: finance and history
Start in GIFT City for meetings or a walk along the new riverside promenades. At midday, drive 20 minutes to Adalaj stepwell, when sunlight reaches its lower levels. If you have a late flight, continue to Ahmedabad for the old city and dinner at Manek Chowk.
Where to eat
Hotel restaurants are the safest bet for business dinners. For a Gujarati thali or street snacks, Sector 21’s market and the Sargasan–Kudasan strip have plenty of local spots.
Before you arrive
- Book a hotel in Sectors 13–14 or GIFT City, depending on your meetings.
- Arrange an airport pick-up — AMD is 20–45 minutes away.
- Check Akshardham’s show timings and the opening days of Dandi Kutir.
- Apply for a liquor permit in advance only if you need one; most dining is alcohol-free.

Getting around
Gandhinagar’s wide roads make driving simple, but distances between sectors are larger than they look. App cabs are widely available; for a packed day, hire a car and driver through your hotel. The Ahmedabad Metro’s second phase is expanding links to Gandhinagar and GIFT City.
Where to stay for this itinerary
Sectors 13–14 suit Day 1, GIFT City suits Day 2. If you only want one hotel, Sargasan–Kudasan sits between both and offers good value. Book on IMPT — same price as elsewhere, with verified climate action included.
Planning Your Two Days
A 48-hour itinerary in Gandhinagar works best with a clear plan. Start day one at Akshardham temple complex, then visit Mahatma Mandir and Dandi Kutir. Use the afternoon for Indroda Nature Park. The metro connects several of these sites. Keep evening free for a walk along the Sabarmati or through a sector park. This approach allows you to see the main attractions without rushing. The city's green belts and wide roads make walking between nearby sectors pleasant. Carry a map of the sector grid to orient yourself. Taxis are available for longer distances. Check the current metro timings before you go, as service may vary on weekends.
Day two can begin with a trip to Adalaj stepwell and Trimandir temple. Return to the city for a look at the government buildings and the grid of sectors. If time allows, visit GIFT City in the afternoon. Check the current metro and taxi options for each leg. Carry water and sun protection. The stepwell is a five-storey structure from 1498, and the nearby Trimandir temple is worth a short stop. GIFT City offers a contrast with its modern architecture. Allow at least two hours for the stepwell trip. The metro is air-conditioned and reliable for central moves.
Practical Tips for Visitors
Gandhinagar is a dry state. Alcohol is not available in most places. Since 2023, a limited relaxation applies in GIFT City for authorised persons. Always check the current rules before planning. The city is vegetarian by default, so all eateries serve only vegetarian food. This is consistent across Gujarat. You will find Gujarati thali, dhokla, khaman, fafda-jalebi, and thepla in many places. No specific restaurants are recommended here. Carry cash for small purchases, as card acceptance varies at street stalls and smaller shops. The city is safe and easy to navigate, with a low crime rate.
The climate can be extreme. November to February is the best time. In summer, temperatures often exceed 40 °C. Carry a hat, sunscreen, and water. The metro is air-conditioned. Most attractions have entry fees; carry cash as card acceptance varies. The city is safe and easy to navigate. Public transport includes metro and auto-rickshaws. Taxis are available through apps. The grid system of sectors and lettered roads makes finding addresses simple. Check the current visa rules before travel, as most foreign visitors need an e-Visa. The e-Visa application is online at the official government website. Allow at least a week for processing.
