Staying in Sargasan · Kudasan, Gandhinagar
Sargasan and Kudasan form the southern edge of Gandhinagar. New residential towers, malls and hotels line the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar road near GIFT City.
What the area is like
Sargasan and Kudasan lie on the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar road, south of the planned sectors. This is the newest part of the capital, where high-rise apartment blocks and office towers have replaced farmland over the past decade. The road is wide and lined with new commercial buildings, many housing banks, showrooms and co-working spaces. The area feels less green than the central sectors, though some trees remain along the main thoroughfare. Footpaths exist along the main road but are patchy on side streets. The Sabarmati river flows about 2 km east, though the riverfront here is not developed for recreation.
Traffic is moderate except during peak hours when the road to Ahmedabad gets congested. Side streets are quieter and more residential, with a mix of older houses and new apartment complexes. Street lighting is adequate on the main road but can be poor on smaller lanes. The area has a modern, functional feel. It is not a tourist district but a place for work and daily life. The proximity to GIFT City means many residents are professionals. You will see more cars and fewer pedestrians than in the central sectors.
- New towers and malls dominate the skyline.
- Side streets are quieter and more residential.
- The area is close to GIFT City and Adalaj stepwell.
Who it suits
This area suits business travellers working at GIFT City or attending events at Mahatma Mandir. The proximity to the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar road makes it convenient for those who need to reach the airport or railway station quickly. It also works for visitors who want to stay near the Adalaj stepwell and Trimandir temple. Many hotels here cater to corporate guests with meeting rooms and business centres. The area is practical and efficient for a work trip.
Leisure travellers may find the area less atmospheric than the central sectors. The streets are functional rather than scenic, and the main attractions are a short drive away. It is a practical base for a work trip or a short stay focused on GIFT City and the southern sights. Families visiting relatives in the new residential towers also find this area convenient. If your itinerary is mostly in central Gandhinagar, consider staying in a sector closer to the state government buildings.
Getting around
The main road has frequent auto-rickshaws and app-based taxis. The Ahmedabad Metro's extension reaches GIFT City and Mahatma Mandir, with stations such as Sector-1 and Sachivalaya a few kilometres north. Check the current service before relying on the metro for your journey. Buses on the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar route stop along the main road, though schedules are irregular. Walking is possible along the main road but not pleasant in summer.
Side streets are quiet and walkable in the evenings. Renting a car or hiring a taxi for the day is practical for visiting Adalaj, Akshardham and other sights. The airport is about 20 minutes by road in light traffic. The railway station is about 15 minutes north. Allow extra time during peak hours. The road to Ahmedabad can be slow in the morning and evening. If you are staying near GIFT City, you may be able to walk to some offices.
- Auto-rickshaws are easy to find on the main road.
- Metro stations are a short ride away; check current operations.
- A taxi for the day costs less than multiple short trips.

Some restaurants offer air-conditioned seating, which is welcome during summer months. For a quick meal, look for small eateries offering thepla, patra and chaat.
