Gandhinagar to India: flights, entry and hotels
Fly from Ahmedabad to six Indian cities. This guide covers routes, entry rules, when to go and where to stay.
Getting to the airport
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is about 18–20 km from central Gandhinagar. The drive via the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar highway takes roughly 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. You can take a taxi or a ride-app vehicle from any sector. The Ahmedabad Metro's extension reaches Infocity and Sector-1, but the airport itself is not on the metro line; you need a connecting taxi from the nearest metro station. Check the current metro service before travel.
Allow extra time for security checks at the airport. Domestic flights usually require you to arrive at least 1.5 hours before departure. The airport has a single terminal for domestic operations. Parking is available for private vehicles. If you are travelling from Gandhinagar early in the morning, pre-book a taxi the night before to avoid delays.
Entry rules for Indian citizens
Indian passport holders do not need a visa or passport to travel domestically within India. For flights, you must carry a government-issued photo ID such as an Aadhaar card, voter ID, driving licence or passport. Airlines may also accept a digital copy on a mobile app, but a physical card is safer. The same ID is required for train travel if you connect from the airport to a city centre.
Rules about ID change occasionally. Always check the official website of the airline or the Bureau of Immigration before your trip. For international travel from Ahmedabad, you need a valid passport and any required visa. This guide covers only domestic destinations.
When to go
The best time to visit any of these cities is from November to February, when the weather is cool and dry. March to June is very hot across most of India, especially in Ahmedabad, Delhi and Hyderabad. Monsoon runs from July to September; flights may be delayed during heavy rain in Mumbai and Goa. Bengaluru has a milder climate year-round, but winter is still the most comfortable season.
Festivals and holidays affect hotel availability and prices. Plan around Diwali (October–November), Holi (March) and the year-end holiday period. For Goa, the peak season is December to February; book well in advance. For business trips to Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, weekdays are generally fine, but avoid major political events that may cause traffic or flight disruptions.

Money and practical tips
All these cities accept Indian rupees. Carry some cash for small purchases, auto-rickshaws and local markets. Cards and digital wallets (Paytm, Google Pay, PhonePe) are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops. ATMs are common in city centres and near airports. For Goa, some beach shacks may prefer cash.
Pack light clothing for warm weather; carry a light jacket or shawl for air-conditioned flights and evenings in winter. A power bank is useful for long days of sightseeing. Download offline maps for each city. For Delhi and Mumbai, be cautious with street food and drink only bottled or filtered water. For Goa, carry sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Carry a reusable water bottle; many hotels provide filtered water.
- Use ride apps for reliable taxi fares; avoid unmarked cabs at airports.
- Check the weather forecast before packing; Goa can be humid year-round.
Booking a stay
Book your hotel or guesthouse in advance, especially for peak seasons and festivals. Use online travel platforms or direct hotel websites. Compare cancellation policies before booking. For business trips, hotels near the airport or business districts are convenient. For leisure, choose a location close to the main attractions or public transport.
For Goa, beachfront properties fill up fast. For Delhi and Mumbai, consider staying in a central neighbourhood to reduce travel time. For Bengaluru and Hyderabad, many hotels offer free airport transfers. Always read recent guest reviews. Check if the hotel provides breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking. For longer stays, serviced apartments are a good option.
